Top Tips to Help You Create the Perfect Fairsale Listing
Here at Fairsale, we’ve worked hard to design a platform that will allow sellers to showcase their items in enough detail to make them attractive to interested buyers without drowning readers in too much information. A good listing will help ensure you rank highly on our search lists and keep buyers interested when they click to view your product. But what makes the perfect Fairsale ad? Let’s run through some key points that will help you create the perfect listing.
1. Separate Ads for Different Items
If you have more than one item to sell, then list them separately. That’s unless you are selling multiple items as part of a bundle of course! It might be quicker to put one ad up for several items but it will also be a lot more confusing for buyers.
2. Good Titles Get Lots of Clicks
A good title is crucial to your chances of generating interest in your item. You don’t need to need to come up with anything too clever - simply describe the item concisely and logically, including only the most important details. Always be honest and accurate, but if there’s a key selling point that makes the item stand out from the crowd, then stick it in the title. Be aware that it isn’t just what you write that’s important; you need to consider how you write it too. Nobody likes to be shouted at so avoid using ALL CAPITAL LETTERS and check your spelling and sentence structure to ensure everything makes sense.
3. Set a Fair and Realistic Price
Pricing an item can be a tricky business, but it’s important you get it right. Most people might think that overpricing an item is the most common error sellers make in this regard, but under-pricing can be just as damaging. We live in a cynical world where the first response to an apparent bargain is often along the lines of ‘there must be something wrong with it’. If you know you are setting a low price, explain your reasons why. You might be offering a genuine bargain because you need to flee the country quickly (we won’t ask questions!) but if so, say a quick sale is needed. If an item is cheap because it has a defect, mention it in the description. Honesty is everything.
4. Include Plenty of Photos
A good set of photos can really make or break a deal. A lot of buyers will scan over the description and details to make sure a few boxes are ticked and then head straight for the photos. Think about when you are buying something – if you want a second opinion from your other half, it’s the photos that you will show him or her! The pictures really show off your item to potential buyers and we allow you up to 5, so you can snap it from every angle so people can see just how wonderful it is.
5. Present Your Item in a Good Light
Talking of photos, try and make sure they present your item in as good a light as possible. Your pictures don’t need to be of National Geographic standard and you don’t even need expensive camera equipment. Most people have a phone with a camera now and if you follow a few simple tips you will end up with some great images of your product:
- Make sure the pictures are well exposed. Too dark or too bright photos that make it difficult to view the image will immediately put people off. If you are taking photos outside, be aware of that bright Mediterranean sunshine and pick a time of day that will allow you to capture a good image.
- Spruce up your item! This is your chance to generate interest; so give that car a clean and wax, brush the dust of your old TV or remove any clutter from the room when taking pictures of a property. There is nothing like a misplaced mop or some unruly wires to spoil a good photo.
- Photograph your item from as many angles as are needed. This will be more relevant to things like cars and properties where you can represent the exterior and interior. Nobody wants to look at the same picture 5 times, so include plenty of contrast.
6. Write a Winning Description of Your Item
Our description section gives you the chance to really sell your item. The description is free text, so you can write whatever you want. Keep it relevant and honest at all times, but be as creative as you like when describing why buyers will love your product. Again, avoid using all capital letters to make it easy on the eye.
7. Get Your Item’s Details Down
The ‘Details’ section of our ad page allows you to select features that are relevant to your item to allow sellers to understand a little more about it. You will get to choose from a selection of features that are relevant to the type of item you are selling. So if you are selling a car for example, you will be able to choose details like make & model, engine size, transmission etc. We have designed the details section to be super easy to use, so make the best use of it and try not to miss anything out. That said, don’t include any feature that your item doesn’t have of course!
8. Check Your Contact Details
We’ve provided a nice big section for your contact details on our ads, but it’s your responsibility to make sure you include the right telephone number. Try to reference a phone that you carry with you – in our experience, there’s nothing more frustrating for buyers than a phone that doesn’t ring or is never answered. Buyers may also contact you via are ‘Message Seller’ function so be ready to respond as needed.
9. Manage Your Listing Once It is Live
You can edit your item’s page once it has been listed. So if you find yourself fielding the same questions, you can update your description to address the issue, or even add a new photo or two. You can also adjust the price if you are struggling to shift the product.
10. Remove a Listing When the Item is Sold
It’s really easy to close down a listing on Fairsale, and it’s your responsibility to remove it when your item has been sold. You won’t want to be inundated with calls about something that is no longer available anyway, but it will also annoy buyers, which could affect future listings.
